Victorian Snake Pin c.1850
CL064
£1,350.00
An unusual Victorian snake stickpin.
The entwined snake is detailed with fine engraving to the head and tail and has a lock of woven hair threaded through the body which is visible in alternating sections. The snake has cabochon garnet eyes and a very realistic head with open mouth.
This fabulous snake would probably have been given in memorium and is very typical of mid-Victorian design with the use of hair within the gold.
It has a long heavy weight gold pin.
The ouroboros, a circular depiction of a snake swallowing its own tail is a symbol of eternity.
Era: Victorian, 1839 - 1901
Measurements: Pin 6.8cm in length,
Snake 17mm at widest point, weight 3.8 grams
Hallmarks: Unmarked - tests as 15ct Gold
