Georgian Daughter Memorial Ring c.1830

SKU RG114
Price

£995.00

An unusual late Georgian memorial ring.

This fabulous ring was made as a memento mori to a beloved daughter as can be seen from the word DAUGHTER in black enamel and gold letters which span the circumference of the ring.

The letters appear to float over a channel which has a black ribbon running through the centre.  There is some slight damage to the inside of the ring where there has been a very old repair which was done over the original hallmarks. This does not detract from the look of the ring and is consistent with age.

These rings can also have hair set to the channel however this one has a ribbon. Hair was widely used as a memento in jewellery from the 17th Century well into the Victorian era.

In common with the vast majority of Georgian pieces, this ring, is a dress ring and will not take 'heavy' wear being nearly 200 years old. Rings of this age and condition are increasingly hard to find.
